REI BROWN GET ME OUT

New York-based Japanese artist rei brown has returned with his fantastic new single and short film-style music video, ‘Get Me Out’. His creativity and musicality evolve with each and every release, and this one is no different. It flips from a dark, ambient soundscape into a punchy, dystopian mesh of electronic sounds, all underpinned by stunning production. Lyrically, it speaks to a generation of young people struggling with mental health, based on his own experiences of psychosis and derealisation. On the video, which is presented as a short film, rather than just a music video, he explains: “Daniel and I were supposed to make a music video years ago but COVID happened and the whole thing got scrapped. During that time he went and directed a feature film while I put out Xeno, and I think we both grew during that time.  It feels somewhat serendipitous to be reconnecting on this.” You can listen to his debut album, Xeno, while you wait for the exciting music rei brown is gearing up to release in 2024. -Dan Peeke
